There are still a few days before our departure to Adigrat for SEE and SMILE ‘S humanitarian mission (10-09-16 till 24-09-16)

This mission is only possible with the initiative, help and great motivation of the Belgian team; Rishan Kahsay- honorary President from “vzw Ethiopia: ikwilleven “and Yohannes Abraha – Minister Counsellor, Public Diplomacy & Political affairs, Ethiopian Embassy Brussels;
and the Ethiopia team; Tigray Regional State Health Bureau and the Tigray Development Association

A memorandum of understanding is maid for improving access and quality of healthcare in Tigray region’s selected hospitals via technical and material support.

We will perform ophthalmic consultations, cataract and glaucoma operations,

dental consultations and care services including dental health education and dental extractions. These services are delivered to those patients in need at the Adigrat Hospital. and other Hospitals in the region.

In addition, SEE and SMILE with their overseas technical, medical equipment and medical supplies will also provide onsite training for health professionals, alongside contributing to the education of local students in Adigrat and other Hospitals of the region.

Missie naar Sidi Ifni

Op 6 september 2013 vertrekken we weer met een groep naar Sidi Ifni voor een periode van meer dan 2 weken, tot 25 september.
Het zal de 3e keer zijn dat we in hetzelfde ziekenhuis( dat nog door de Spanjaarden tijdens hun koloniale periode werd gebouwd) gaan werken. De raadplegingen gaan vooral uitgevoerd worden in verder afgelegen woestijndorpjes op 1 tot 2h rijden met 4×4 wagens, campagne rurale zoals we het daar noemen.
De eerste week vertrekken Fransien, Marnix, Roland, Matthias, Eline, Lindsy, Annemie, Arlette en ikzelf. De 2e week komen Gregory en Saad de groep vervoegen. Er is deze keer een Marokaanse oogarts die in Brussel werkt en woont die ons missieteam voor de eerste keer vervoegt.
De directeur van het lokale ziekenhuis (hetgeen aldaar een kliniek wordt genoemd) in Sidi Ifni, een ULBer!, ontving ons vorige jaar met open armen. Sinds vorig jaar is de directeur er tewerkgesteld en deed zijn studies in Brussel, we merkten duidelijk dat er een verschil was in betere werking van de kliniek .
Er werd zelfs een spleetlamp van onder het spaanse stof gehaald, tientallen jaren niet gebruikt maar ze functioneerde tot zolang de zekeringen het niet begaven.
Er is geen enkele oftalmoloog of oogchirurg in de regio, dus alle hulp is welkom.
Momenteel is het missieteam voltallig en is de papiermolen van voorbereidingen zoals paspoorten, diploma’s, enz bijna ten einde. Een fikse administratieve klus vooraleer een missie kan van start gaan.
